What does Hot Girl Independence Month look like?
There’s a lot of talk about “freedom” this month, but let’s be honest: most people treat freedom like it’s a vibe—something you wear on a t-shirt or post on Instagram with fireworks. But real freedom is a discipline. It’s choosing your thoughts, your actions, your principles every single day, not just when it’s convenient or trending.
Freedom is getting up early to write before the world’s noise creeps in. It’s learning history so you can think critically, not just regurgitate what your feed tells you. It’s saying no to what drains you, even when it’s the easy yes. It’s daring to live exactly as you wish, without explanation.
This July, we’re taking “Hot Girl Summer” and giving it a real revolution.
✨ What are we reading?
The Souls of Black Folk (W.E.B. Du Bois) – because freedom means learning the stories they didn’t teach you in school. Educate yourself, don't outsource your mind to the algorithm.
Common Sense (Thomas Paine) – a fiery pamphlet that once sparked a revolution, and might just light your mind on fire too. Light reading to go with a cup of coffee in the morning.
✨ What are we watching?
A Gentleman in Moscow – because if you think freedom is a given, watch what happens when it’s taken away under communism. A quiet, luxurious warning that freedom must be protected—or it will be lost.
TURN: Washington’s Spies – a reminder that your ancestors risked everything and refused to live under actual tyranny, so you can risk being that girl who asks better questions at your next dinner party.
✨ What are we drinking?
Chilled red (a bright Beaujolais or Pinot). Serve it cold. Break the rules.
✨ What are we making?
Ice cream sundaes with aggressive toppings. Cherries, hot fudge, toasted coconut, edible glitter if you must. It’s July. Go maximalist.
✨ Rant:
“Why freedom isn’t a vibe, it’s a discipline.” (and let’s keep living like it is)
